Allt á Bhainne

Allt á Bhainne distillery was founded by Seagrams in 1975 and is located in Glenrinnes, Banffshire.

It was intended to produce malt whisky as content for the company's blended whisky contracts and has never been bottled as an OB single malt, although some Independent Bottlings have been sold.

The distillery was closed in 2002 and taken over by Pernod Ricard who reopened it in 2005.

General whisky characteristics: Alpine meadows of wild flowers and herbs

Independent Bottlers

Weiser, Allt á Bhainne,  13y, distilled 1992, bottled 2005, (refill sherry cask), 58.9% ABV

'Vintage Cask' bottling, sampled at Limburg whisky fair.

Typical cost of this bottle; €€€€€

Nose: Touches of honey, raisins and freshly dried paint

Palate: Quite bold and spicy with blach cherries and dark fruits

Overall Impression: I guess the usually lighter character of this whisky was influenced by the sherry cask, but not a bad one at all.
