Where do I go from here?
or
A new beginning? |
|
|
It's no secret that
for the last year
I've
pretty much let Whisky Emporium stagnate. No new articles,
features or even tasting notes but that's quite understandable
after the sudden death of Sabine, my wife, last February. I
still can't believe it happened and often expect to awake and
find it was all a bad dream, but sadly that doesn't seem to be
happening.
So, where next
for me at a time when so many established whisky
commentators and bloggers are giving up, shall I do the same?
Perhaps let the website continue to stagnate, sit in a kind of
limbo or perhaps look to try and do something with it? I'm not
into new year's resolutions so this isn't one of those good
intentions that go by the wayside by the end of January, it's a
decision to try and move forward. Although I haven't been
writing tasting notes I have managed to accrue more whisky
samples than I can easily or quickly taste and these should be
addressed. In addition, at Limburg last year I made the decision
to concentrate mainly on one distillery; Laphroaig, my wife's
one love when it comes to whisky and I have something like 26
different examples to try. These will be my first priority quite
literally during January and February as I'd like to finish a
full update of my Laphroaig distillery page with tasting notes
to all 26 by the 26th February which will be the first
anniversary of her death.

In addition
I've built up another large selection of samples which are
slowly filling my desk and with Limburg 2017 on the horizon I
guess it's time to address these, especially as there are some
lovely old bottlings amongst them. Think along the lines of old
blends, 1953 24y Talisker, 30y Glentauchers, 1972 Glenrothes,
Balvenie cognac bottle, Glen Mhor, various old Inchgower, a
lovely selection of very old grains alongside some moderately
aged ones plus lots more interesting examples, too many to
individually name.
So, hopefully
2017 will be something of a new start for Whisky Emporium,
but as I said "no resolutions" just a bit of hope that I'll find
the momentum once again.
Ahhh, did I mention
I mention my birth year bottle that I recently acquired? A 1959
51y North British
Slàinte Mhath. |
